The presentation analyzes how the interface between social stratification and mobility impacts citizens’ perspectives on politics in the Americas, with a special focus on Brazil. More specifically, we will explore how individuals who have undergone processes of upward social mobility in the past years and now classify themselves as middle class think about politics, what are their basic views on system support, their evaluations of the government and representatives, tolerance towards other social groups and their voting behavior patterns. The study is uses public opinion surveys of the Americas Barometer (AB) series and will study Brazil in comparison with other countries in the region.
